Malaria constantly threatens half of the world’s population and kills almost one million people every year, 90% of them in Sub-Saharan Africa. Pregnant women and young children are particularly at risk: eight out of ten malaria-deaths are children under the age of five. However, malaria can be cured and prevented at relatively low costs.
STOP MALARIA NOW! is a consortium of ten health and development NGOs from Europe, Africa and the US. We want to raise public awareness on malaria as a global health problem and mobilize respective support for stronger political, financial and strategic commitments in order to achieve the health-related Millennium Development Goals.
And the winners are: 12 young film-makers from Europe and Africa who want to work together to raise awareness on malaria. From the 9th to the 19th of September they will jointly produce the “Insight Malaria” film in Kenya.

Combating malaria and other diseases is one of the most effective ways to alleviate poverty and promote equitable and sustainable economic progress. In 2008 the UN Secretary General set the goal to achieve Universal Coverage for all populations at risk with locally appropriate interventions by 2010. Since only very little time remains to reach these targets, political decicion makers are requested to act!
