International Malaria Conference 2009
The International STOP MALARIA ORAIN! Congress 2009 was held in Bilbao on 26 and 27 November 2009 and was organised by medicusmundi bizkaia, a member organization of Federation of Medicus Mundi Spain (FAMME).
During the conference, experts provided an overview of the situation of malaria in the world, advances in the vaccine, effective treatments etc.
The participants then discussed different topics and issues concerning malaria and the impacts of the poverty disease. Women and malaria were an issue covered in one workshop as well the access to drugs and medical treatment.
As part of the campaign STOP MALARIA NOW! the conference aimed at providing a picture of the malaria situation worldwide, with a special emphasis on developing countries. With this international gathering, the South was given a voice. Strategies must be worked out for cooperation in and with the South in order to eradicate malaria, with a special focus on Africa.
